BIOGRAPHY
Coming from a family focused on the performing arts, John Cusack, the brother of the American actress and screenwriter Joan Cusack , began his career at the age of eight as a theater actor and voice actor for advertising spots . In 1983, he landed his first film role playing the role of Roscoe in Lewis John Carlino ‘s romantic comedy Class . He then worked with several beginning directors, including Cameron Crowe ( A World of Us , 1989) and Tim Robbins ( Bob Roberts , 1992; Broadway 39th Street , 1999).
The historical tragedy Les Maîtres de l’ombre ( Roland Joffé , 1989) and especially the film noir Les Arnaqueurs ( Stephen Frears , 1990) made his face familiar to the general public. John Cusack then went on to produce ambitious works under the direction of directors as prestigious as Woody Allen ( Shadows and Fog , 1992; Gunshots on Broadway , 1994), Clint Eastwood ( Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil , 1997), Robert Altman ( The Player , 1992), Terrence Malick ( The Red Line , 1998) and Spike Jonze ( In the Skin of John Malkovich , 1999).
In 1994, the actor became interested in writing by participating in the dialogues of Floundering . He is still evolving in the screenwriting direction with films like Tueurs a gages (1997) and Haute fidelity (2001) of which he is also a producer. Indeed, in 1997, Cusack launched into production, notably with Grace Is Gone (2008), the American drama by James C. Strouse . Faithful to the genre with which he entered the cinema, John Cusack continues his acting career in romantic comedies by opposite the biggest female stars of his generation: Julia Roberts (Couple of stars , 2001 ) , Kate Beckinsale ( A Love in New York , 2002) and Diane Lane ( The Hand on a Necklace , 2005).
Twice partner of Billy Bob Thornton in Les Aiguilleurs (2000) and Faux amis(2006), he subsequently alternated independent films imbued with a certain gravity ( Max , 2001; Grace is Gone , 2008) and Hollywood thrillers of a more classic style ( Identity , 2003; The Master of the Game , 2004; The Contract , 2007; and Chambre 1408 , 2008), until 2009, when he was propelled to headlining the 2012 blockbuster by Roland Emmerich . In 2010, he collaborated with Steve Pink as producer and actor for his comedy The Time Machine , then took part, two years later, in two thrillers: he became the writer Edgar Allan Poe in Search of a formidable serial killer ( L’Ombre du mal ) and lends his features to a very violent inmate languishing on death row ( Paperboy ). In 2013, John Cusack played Richard Nixon in Lee Daniels ‘ critically acclaimed
film , The Butler . He was found the following year in David Cronenberg ‘s controversial Map to the Stars where he co-starred with Julianne Moore and Robert Pattinson . In 2015, in Love and Mercy , the actor played Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson , during the period of the 1980s. Alongside these relatively ambitious projects, John Cusack took part in a multitude of Direct to DVD films mainly oriented action/thriller like 48 Hours , Suspect , Grand Piano , The Killing Instinct , Drive Hard , The Prince , Dragon Blade and Arsenal . In 2019, John Cusack starred in the western Never Grow Old alongside Emile Hirsch .
