BIOGRAPHY
Originally from New Zealand, Karl Urban began his acting career after high school in 1992 with recurring roles in his country’s series Shortland Street and Homeward Bound . It was in 2000, with the horror film Face the Demons , that he obtained his first major role in the cinema. Hollywood then began to take a keen interest in this hard-faced actor and offered him a role in the horror film The Ship of Anguish (2002), which allowed him to star alongside Gabriel Byrne and Julianna Margulies .
In 2002, Karl Urban revealed himself to the general public by playing Eomer in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers , directed by his compatriot Peter Jackson . After reprising his role in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King , he specialized in particularly muscular productions, playing a Necromanger in The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), facing Matt Damon in Death in the Skin (id.) or tracking down mutants with The Rock in Doom (2005), a big screen adaptation of the famous video game.
A sure bet in science fiction films, Karl Urban takes on the role of chief doctor aboard the Enterprise in Star Trek (2009) then Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). Between these two quality blockbusters, he plays the tough adversary of Bruce Willis in Red , the villain of Priest and slips into the skin of Dredd , famous vigilante who maintains order in the future. In 2013, the actor found his enemy Riddick for a new confrontation signed David Twohy .
