The singer was born on August 21, 1938 as Kenneth Ray Rogers in Houston, Texas, United States of America. He was born the fourth of eight children to his parents: Lucille Lois Rogers and Edward Floyd Rogers. His father worked as a carpenter while his mother worked as a nursing assistant. He was a US citizen and is of mixed Irish and Native American descent.
Regarding his education, he graduated from Wharton Elementary School, George Washington High School, and then Jefferson Davis High School in 1956. After that, he joined the University of Houston.
