Kina Kasuya Grannis was born on August 4, 1985 in Mission Viejo, Orange County, California, United States. She is known to be of half-Japanese and half-European descent. The musician grew up in a bourgeois house; her father, Gordon, is a European who worked as a chiropractor while her mother, Trish, is a professional Japanese graphic designer. Growing up, she was well loved and adored by her two siblings, Misa and Emi.

Kina received her elementary education at Viejo Elementary School before moving to Capistrano High School where she later graduated. She then earned her degree in social sciences with a major in psychology from the University of Southern California.

Career

The singer had a great love for the music bottled up in her growing up. Since she was always shy to share or talk about things, she resorted to writing songs for fun and to express her personal thoughts. To improve this skill, she started learning to play the guitar on her own.

Her relationship with composing and songwriting was noticed in high school, and she was chosen by Thornton School of music to compose a six-song Extended Play (EP) released in 2005.

Kina Grannis then released her videos on YouTube and luckily her first uploaded video ‘Message from Your Heart’ attracted more than one hundred million viewers. This earned him a $10,000 cash prize in the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest and a contract with Interscope Giffen A&M Records.

Over time, Kina felt the need for the pusher, so she left the record company. Her popularity grew with every effort she put into her career. His debut album titled “Stairwells” was released in 2010.
