Lance Darnell Gross was born on July 8, 1981 in Oakland, California, in the United States of America. Lorin Gross is his father who is Ghanaian while his mother Alice Gross is African American. Lance has made a name for himself over the years as a veteran actor, model and photographer, having appeared in an impressive number of magazines and films.
As a young boy, he attended Bonanza High School; Interestingly, he was crowned prom king in his senior year. During his school days he was always an exceptional athlete and therefore received a full scholarship to study at Howard University. Although Lance Gross was a good athlete by nature, he had other passions and one that was so strong is his passion for acting. After graduating, he decided to pursue a career in athletics, which led him to a Bachelor of Arts in Theater. He also attended various acting classes from a handful of studios, including Tasha Smith Acting Studio and Ivanna Chubbuck Studio.
He initially began his career making music videos for established artists including; Mariah Carey, Rihanna and Mary J Blige. Lance has also worked with the Karl Kani brands as a model.

Beginning in 2006, Lance landed minor roles in films including; The Bernie Mac Show, Eva, and a few others. Fortune smiled at him when he met Tyler Perry while performing at Tasha Smith’s acting studio. As a result of this meeting, he landed the role of “Calvin Payne” on Perry’s new sitcom, House of Payne . For this role, he has won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series four times.
In 2008, he landed his first film role when he was in the romantic comedy Meet the Browns. Lance Gross, who had already seen his career blossom in 2010, starred opposite America Ferrera in the film Our Family Wedding. In 2012, he also starred in an independent film called The Last Fall, a film about a retired NFL player who is facing family and financial difficulties. Most recently, Lance is a frequent cast member on the Fox musical “Star.”
