She was born Lola Jean Albright on Sunday, July 20, 1924, in Akron, Ohio. Growing up in Akron, she attended King Grammar School and West High School, graduating in 1942. Lola’s beauty earned her the Best High School Girl nomination. She loved to sing from an early age and sang in public performances. In doing so, she also became very familiar with the piano.

At 15, Lola was working for a radio station called WAKR as a receptionist. She moved to Cleveland at the age of 18 to take up a new position as a stenographer at WTAM radio. There, she met her first husband, Warren Dean. After Lola Albright’s first radio performance on WJW, Lola moved to Chicago and became a model for a photographer.

She was quickly discovered by a scout and had to move to Hollywood at the age of 23. Lola then started with a minor singing role as a fashion house associate in the 1947 film, The Unfinished Dance, followed by the 1948 films; The Pirate, Easter Parade, Julia Behaves Badly, Tulsa, and the black production film, Champion, where she portrayed Palmer alongside Kirk Douglas.
