Born June 13, 1969 in Oakland, California. SA Malaak Compton Rock spent her early years in Brooklyn, New York but eventually moved to New Jersey. She attended a private university, Howard University in Washington, DC, from which she earned a BFA in Arts/Production Management. In May 2009, she received an honorary doctorate from Fairleigh Dickenson University.
Former wife Malaak Compton Rock is the founder of the Angelrock Project, an online e-village promoting volunteerism, social responsibility and sustainable change. As the founder of the organization, her main focus is on the education and advancement of young people and women. She is also the founder and CEO of the nonprofit StyleWorks, a full-service salon that provides free services to women transitioning from welfare into the workforce.
Malaak is also the brains of the Champions for Children committee, a respected group of popular people dedicated to raising awareness of the signs and prevention
of child abuse. She also leads the group. In addition, Malaak was also involved with other charities including Safe Horizon, HOPE Worldwide, UNICEF, the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, The Salvation Army and the Children’s Defense Fund.

Malaak Compton Rock has three daughters, two of whom are her biological children and one adopted. Her two daughters, Lola Simone, born June 28, 2002 in New York City, and Zahra Savannah, born May 22, 2004, are products of her nearly two-decade marriage to Chris Rock, whom she met at the Essence Awards and at Tied November 23, 1996.
In 2008, another daughter was added to the family when Malaak and Chris welcomed a six-month-old South African girl named Ntombi.

According to the sweet lady, her inspiration for her work was the life of Marian Wright Edelman, founder of the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF). However, she was inspired early in life, not in money but in time and volunteerism, by her mother, who describes her as an extreme philanthropist.
At age 24, Malaak was working for Manhattan’s top public relations executive, Terrie M. Williams, who decided to quit the job because she didn’t have time to volunteer. Her boss found it difficult to understand why she left, but Malaak told her it was because she believed service is the rent we pay for her to live and she wasn’t paying hers.
