American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey is one of the best of her genre this generation has seen. She has achieved incredible feats that many of her counterparts can only dream of. With over 200 million records sold worldwide, Mariah Crey’s legacy would live on for years and years to come.
Since bursting into the music industry in 1988 and becoming a star almost immediately, Mariah has since become one of the most sought-after celebrities of our time. Like her career, Mariah’s personal life has generated a lot of media interest. This article will explore everything there is to know about Mariah Carey’s personal life including her children, parents, siblings, husband, and more.
Mariah Carey’s Parents
Mariah Carey’s parents, Alfred Roy Carey, an aeronautical engineer, and Patricia (née Hickey), an opera singer, met and married in 1960. Their relationship might have been totally happy if they hadn’t not been victims of racial injustice.
Sir. Carey was African-American of Afro-Venezuelan descent and Mrs. Carey of Irish descent. At that age, the color of their skin would have had little or nothing to do with their union, but Mariah’s parents got married at a time when it was absolutely taboo to enter into an interracial union. The consequences were terrible.
Patricia’s white family never supported her relationship with a black man, they even went so far as to disown her, which forced Patricia to elope with Carey. But running away with her lover would not protect them from the victimization they would face later.

No matter what neighborhood they moved to, black-dominated or white-dominated, everyone seemed to frown at their interracial union. On one occasion, guns were fired at the window while the family was having dinner.
Mariah’s parents struggled to stay in love with each other, but it didn’t take long for the tension to creep in since their marriage began.
In 1970, Mariah’s parents had her as their third child. Mariah repeatedly recalled seeing her parents argue violently. In 1973, when she was only three years old, Mariah was finally divorced. Mariah’s older sister Alison stayed with their father while Mariah and her brother Morgan stayed with their mother.
Gradually, Mariah separated from her father. After a battle with cancer, Alfred Roy Carey died in 2002.
Sister- Alison Carey
Mariah’s older sister, Alsion Carey, was born in 1962 on Long Island. While Mariah struggled to become a superstar, Alison, who chose to stay with her father after the divorce, found herself on a very dark path. Alison became pregnant when she was 15, and at 16 dropped out of high school and married a certain Dale Scott.
However, her marriage was not about to be a blissful one. Four years after her marriage, Alison separated from Dale and wandered down darker paths. She eventually had four children, including three sons and a daughter. Alison turned to prostitution on the streets of New York and became a drug addict. By the late 1980s, Carey’s sister had come into contact with HIV/AIDS.
Stranged by her sister Mariah, Alison sought to mend the relationship in 1994, but it didn’t seem to be going too well. By 2016, her condition had worsened and she needed spine and brain surgery.
On several occasions, Alison has publicly reached out to Mariah and even spoken to the media about her relationship with her sister. In 2016, their older brother Morgan released a statement calling Mariah an “evil witch” who abandoned her family.

Mariah’s second marriage was to Drum Line actor Nick Cannon whom she met in Antigua while filming a music video. Despite the huge age difference of 12 years, Mariah being older of course, they got married on April 30, 2008.
On their anniversary in 2011, the couple welcomed two children, fraternal twins; a Moroccan boy named Scott Cannon and a girl Munroe Cannon. The couple renewed their wedding vows at the hospital where Mariah gave birth via caesarean section. Reverend Al Sharpton chaired it.
Unfortunately, four years after the arrival of their children, the relationship between Mariah and Nick has become fragile. Nick filed for divorce on December 12, 2014, and in 2016 the divorce was finalized.
