Mason Crosby NFL Career

Born and named Mason Walker Crosby in September3, 1984, the placekicker was selected in the sixth round by the Green Bay Packers in the 2007 NFL Draft with the 193rd overall pick. He was the third overall place kicker selected in that year’s draft.

In a battle for the starting spot with kicker then, in the team’s first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dave Rayner took the post with a 52-yard field goal that became the longest field goal in Heinz Field stadium history.

Mason Crosby made his NFL debut against the Philadelphia Eagles and brought his clutch reputation to bear when he converted a 53-yarder and a 42-yard kick by two seconds to lead the Packers to a win over the visiting team. That kick made him the first rookie to score a game winner in the opening weekend since 1979. He also became the first player in league history to kick a 50-yard field goal and a game-winning field goal with less than a minute left in his NFL debut.

That feat made him the first rookie kicker to be named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week in opening weekend. He went on to lead the 2007 NFL season by 130 points and became the second rookie to have the most points in a season. With his 24 field goals, he also took first place in the NFC. At the end of his rookie season, Mason Crosby became the highest-scoring kicker in a season in franchise history and the third-highest season-scoring of any Packers player.

Mason hasn’t slowed down in his performance since 2007, he’s continued to put on strong plays, breaking old records, setting new ones, and earning countless professional awards. He has become one of the Packers’ most valuable players. As a result, the team re-signed him to a five-year contract on July 27, 2011, and then to a four-year contract extension on March 1, 2016.

As of 2017, the kicker has played in 176 regular season games, scoring 277 field goals from 345 field goal attempts.
