BIOGRAPHY
Born in Beverly Hills, California, Matthew Vaughn was educated at Stowe School in Buckingham, England. Between Stowe and college, he took a gap year during which he traveled the world on a “Hard Rock Café tour” before returning to Los Angeles where he began working as an assistant director. He then studied anthropology at the University of London before deciding to turn definitively to cinema. Once he returned to Los Angeles, he quickly realized that he was far from being the only one to pursue cinematographic ambitions. He therefore prefers to try his luck in England. At the age of 25, the young man took matters into his own hands and produced his first feature film, Innocent Witness (1995), which received some good reviews if not a box office success.

Later, the producer met, thanks to a friend, Guy Ritchie who offered him the script for Scams, Crimes and Botany . After a long process linked to the financing of the project, the two partners presented this gangster film in several festivals where it won several awards including that of “best British independent film” in 1998. Scams, Crimes and Botany also achieved notable success at the box office . -office, which allowed Matthew Vaughn and Guy Ritchie to finance Snatch (2000), a film about crime in the United Kingdom starring Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones (who starred for the second time under the direction of Guy Ritchie ) as well as Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Toro .

In 2002, Matthew Vaughn and Guy Ritchie produced Barry Skolnick ‘s first feature film , Red Card – Mean Machine , a film about football in the prison world. The same year saw the release of Adrift , which marked the end of the Vaughn/ Ritchie partnership . The film was a total failure and received 5 Razzie Awards (awards for the worst films of the year).

Three years later, Matthew Vaughn made his first attempt as a director with Layer Cake , telling the story of XXXX ( Daniel Craig ), a respected cocaine dealer among the English mafia elite, who is we are given the difficult mission of finding the eldest daughter of a powerful criminal. The film went relatively unnoticed but convinced Fox to offer Matthew Vaughn the direction of X-Men: The Last Stand . If he refuses, he agrees to direct, for Paramount,(2007), with Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer . The film was a commercial and critical failure.

In 2010, Matthew Vaughn directed a new adaptation, this time of a comic strip, Kick-Ass , with, among others, Nicolas Cage and Mark Strong as headliners. He then continued with the direction of X-Men The Beginning about the youth of Professor Xavier and Magneto with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender while also producing and writing The Rachel Singer Affair , a spy film with Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington .

He left his directorial duties for a while to work on the sequels to Kick Ass and Kingsman: Secret Service or the adventures of a budding secret agent ( Taron Egerton ), guided by his mentor played by Colin Firth .
