BIOGRAPHY
Matthias Schoenaerts is a Belgian actor and producer, born December 8, 1977, in Antwerp, Belgium. Son of the actor Julien Schoenaerts and the designer Dominique Wiche, Matthias began to feel attracted to acting from the age of 9, when at school he participated in a staging of the play The Little Prince, alongside his father, who was also the director of it. At the age of 13 he appeared in a small role in the film Daens (1992), nominated for the Academy Awards in the category of best foreign film. As a teenager, he was a street graffiti artist, as well as being a prominent footballer, and was close to turning professional when the Beerschot AC club had him in their sights, but by 16 he abandoned the sport and focused on acting. He returned to the industry in 2001, appearing in television series and was soon considered one of the young European promises of entertainment, beginning to work regularly on the big screen. In 2011 he managed to obtain the lead role in the acclaimed film Bullhead (2011), which boosted his career and gave him international recognition. Schoenaerts has been part of notable feature films such as The Delivery (2014), Red Sparrow (2018), A Hidden Life (2019), The Old Guard (2020), among others.
