Melissa Joan Hart: I helped children escape a shooting
Melissa Joan Hart has stated that she helped students flee the Nashville school massacre. In an emotional Instagram video, Hart said her children attend school near The Covenant School, where a gunman opened fire on Monday.
The Sabrina the Teenage Witch actress stated that she and her husband helped a kindergarten class escape and reunite with their families.
Three children and three adults died in the shooting.
The young men were ninth grade students at a private Christian school. The adults were all staff members.
Hart testified that she and her husband were nearby on their way to lectures at their children’s school Monday morning when the shooting occurred.
When students at The Covenant School began evacuating, they assisted with family reunification efforts.
“We helped a kindergarten class cross a busy road as they walked out of the woods to escape the active shooter situation at their school,” Hart added, visibly distraught.
“So, we helped these young children cross the street and escorted their teachers across, as well as reuniting a mother with her children.”
Melissa Joan Hart stated that this is the second time in her town that a mass shooting has occurred.
Her children attended a school near Sandy Hook, where a gunman killed 20 children in 2012, when she lived in Connecticut.
“This is our second encounter with a school shooting near our children,” he said.
Later in the video, she said:
“I just don’t know what to say anymore.” Just pray for the families; Enough is enough.
The perpetrator of the Nashville shooting has been identified by authorities as former student Audrey Hale, 28.
Hale was legally armed with at least two assault weapons and a handgun, according to officers. Police killed the suspect immediately after the shooting began.
