Back in 2013, when Rolling Stone released its top 50 funniest people in the world, Michael Che got a spot for himself. During the same year, which also happened just a few years into his career, Che was named one of Variety ‘s 10 comics to watch. Several years later, he still remains very prominent in the comedy industry.

A stand-up comedian, actor, and writer, Che made a name for himself as the co-anchor of Saturday Night Live’s (SNL) Weekend Update. More than just a co-presenter, he is also a co-editor.

Michael Che Biography and Age

Although it is as Michael Che that the stand-up comedian is known, he was born and goes by the name Michael Che Campbell in the Lower East Side, Manhattan, New York City on May 19, 1983. It is also in the Lower East Side that he grew up.

He grew up in the very large family of Rose and Nathaniel Campbell, the youngest of their seven children. His immediate older brother was already 7 years old when he was born, which meant that Che had many siblings to protect him.

Unfortunately, his parents separated when he was still young. As a result, their mother had to take three jobs to feed the children and make sure they didn’t lose the roof over their heads.

When he was 14, he said he was already an adult, so he was kicked out by his mother. He would later stay with his father before returning to his mother after his father’s marriage. However, things didn’t work out for them and so he went back to see his father.

Michael Che went to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts. He was very good at drawing since he was a child but didn’t take it too seriously when he went to art school.

The irony was that it was after he got through with school that he decided to pursue the arts more seriously. He continued with painting and other artistic works. He got a job at a Toyota dealership company, which made him more serious.

Michael was given the opportunity to start his business and later work with Tommy Hilfiger, but somehow self-doubt kept him from taking the second chance. With nothing left to do, Michael Che decided to try acting and so later in 2009 he started stand-up comedy.

He started his career in 2009 and by 2013 he had become a writer on Saturday Night Live and then by 2014 he was a correspondent on The Daily Show. He didn’t last long, but his good works were plain to see. Later, Che became an anchor for SNL’s Weekend Update with Colin Jost.

He has won numerous awards throughout his career, including two Writers Guild of America Awards for Comedy/Variety and Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Series.

Considering he is a handsome man who has achieved a lot of success so far, one would expect him to be settled in his personal life with probably a woman. However, Michael Che is still not married. In fact, he revealed in September 2018 that he was still single at the time.

As already stated, Michael Che’s parents are Nathaniel Campbell and Rose Campbell. His father was a history buff who decided to name his son after the Argentine Marxist revolutionary leader Che Guevara.

At first, the comedian lived with his mother before later moving in with his father and stepmother.
