Michael Fassbender was born to an Irish mother, Adele, and a German father, Josef Fassbender, on April 2, 1977. His place of birth is in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. However, he and his older sister, whose name is Catherine, grew up in the countryside of South West Ireland where their people moved when he was two years old.
For his education, the youngster started at Fossa National School and went to St. Brendan’s College, where he received his secondary education. There he decided to become an actor after enjoying acting in the few school plays he was cast in.
Fassbender left home around the age of 19 and went to London to pursue his drama and acting skills. He enrolled at Central Saint Martins’ Drama Center London. He stayed at the school for two years before joining the Oxford Stage Company, with whom he toured and performed. His first notable on-screen role came in 2001 when he was cast in the award-winning Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg miniseries titled Bond of Brothers.
He gained further worldwide recognition for his performances in Hunger (2008), where he portrayed the late Irish revolutionary soldier Bobby Sands, who went on a hunger strike that resulted in his death in prison.
