“It is important that children have both parents. But [preventing me] from breastfeeding my child just so he can see that his dad is wrong,” Curtis told People.

As a child, Curtis traveled weekends to Detroit suburbs such as Flint and Saginaw. At that time, she had a passion for old classic American homes.

Thanks to his love and passion for these rustics, Curtis purchased, by land deed, a 1945 rancher-style home in Tampa, Florida when he was 18 years old. Monthly payments for the house were under $600.

In the late 1990s, Curtis began rehabilitating old homes that were marked for demolition beginning with his former family properties in Tampa, Atlanta and Minneapolis. Gradually it spread to new areas. In 2012, she sold a house in Minneapolis that she had bought for US$145,000 after spending US$100,000 to rehabilitate it.

Her foray into television began when she was discovered by the DIY Network. DIY was looking for a real estate agent in Minneapolis when they discovered Curtis’s website, which included “Glamour Shots-like photos.” The producers were impressed and invited her for a test shoot. The rest is history. Rehab Addict was established in 2010 and has been incredibly successful.
