Pentatonix, PTX for short, is an American a cappella group from Arlington, Texas. The group consists of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee. The group is characterized by its pop style arrangements with vocal harmonies, bass lines, riffs, percussion and beatboxing. They had cover versions of modern pop works to Christmas songs, along with original material sometimes in the form of a medley.
The a cappella group ‘Pentatonix’ formed in 2011, after which they won the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off, receiving $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music. Later, the group also created their YouTube channel, which has acquired more than 17 million subscribers and 4 billion views, so far.
The group Pentatonix have won three Grammy Awards ultimately becoming the first a cappella act to win Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella in 2015 and 2016, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance in 2017. They had also won eleven nominations and four other wins, including Streamy Awards and YouTube Music Awards.

Kirstin Maldonado: Born on May 16, 1992 in Forth Worth, Texas, United States, since the formation of the group, she has been a vocalist and composer. She debuted her solo career in 2017 with the song ‘Break a Little’ and the single ‘LOV E’. Maldonado also debuted hers on Broadway in 2008 in ‘Kinky Boots’ as Lauren. She got engaged to Jeremy Michael Lewis in 2016. But they postponed their wedding saying they would work on certain issues.
Mitch Grassi: Born on July 24, 1992 in Arlington, Texas, USA, he is an American countertenor/tenor and musician. He rose to fame after being part of the a cappella group. Apart from singing, he also became popular for being avant-garde and adventurous. Furthermore, he also claimed that he is inspired by the fashion designer of the late 80s and 90s, Demna Gvasalia. In addition, he also openly confronted himself for being gay.
Kevin Olusola: Born October 5, 1988 in Owensboro, Kentucky, USA, he is an American musician, beatboxer, cellist, rapper, and songwriter. He is also known for developing the art of ‘cello’, playing the cello and doing beatboxing. In 2011, his viral video of Mark Summer’s celloboxing version of ‘Juli-O’ led him to join the group. Also, he married college admissions consultant Leigh Weissman in 2019 in Simi Valley.
Matt Sallee: He was born on February 11, 1994 in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Son of musical pastor E. Sallee and his wife Tammy. He is an American pop singer and musician and joined the group replacing Avi Kaplan. He had also worked with various artists, including Jessie J and Miss Jill Scott.
Scott Hoying: Born on September 17, 1991 in Arlington, Texas, USA, he is a principal baritone and backing vocalist. Before winning The Sing-Off with Pentatonix, he was a finalist on CBS’s Star Search. Furthermore, he has also created the popular YouTube channel ‘ SuperFruta ‘ together with his best friend and band member Mitch Grassi.
