On November 27, 1965, Peter Kenneth was born in Bahati. It was here that the man who would grow up to be regarded as a muthungu (white man) began his life because of his way of doing things. Peter was raised by a single parent – his mother, with whom he lived in a single apartment. His harsh upbringing may have contributed to his desire to work hard and improve the lives of other people, especially those who are less fortunate.
Peter Kenneth received his initial education from the Bahati Uhuru Elementary Schools. From there he went to Starehe Boys’ Center and School for his secondary education and then to the University of Nairobi where he completed a Bachelor of Law degree.
Peter was a great soccer player, especially in his teenage years. During his school days he was a goalkeeper and played for a football club in Kenya called Reunion. During his playing tenure, he helped Reunion reach great heights in football. He only retired from football after a threatened arm fracture sustained while playing for the club.
After graduating from the University of Nairobi, Peter went to Switzerland to run an executive program at the International Institute for Management Development.
Despite being a prominent figure, many Kenyans are unaware that Peter Kenneth is a banker . The politician worked as an employee of Nationwide Finance Company for two years (1985 and 1986). He worked for Prudential Bank for 11 years where he was appointed bank manager. In his banking career he worked for the Kenya Reinsurance Company from 1997 to 2002.
In addition to his banking career, Peter Kenneth has also served as Chairman of the Football Federation of Kenya (KFF). KFF is one of the most difficult organizations to account for as Kenyan football is unpredictable. However, Peter, with his amazing leadership skills, was able to take over the presidency of the association from 1996 to 2000. During his tenure, the Kenya football team achieved one of their best performances. Unfortunately, however, he was not able to see the Harambee Stars play a major continental or world tournament, or even win a major trophy.
Peter Kenneth ventured into politics in 2002 when he vied for the Gatanga parliamentary seat in the 2002 general election, emerging as legislators and constituency representatives victorious. In addition to being a graduate engineer, he was also appointed Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning and National Development. During his tenure as MP, his constituency was voted the best in fund management.
Peter Kenneth’s political ambitions became more apparent as he ran for the presidency in 2012 . He made history by becoming a presidential candidate in Kenya with no African name. Though he lost to President Uhuru Kenyatta, his impact on the entire political divide was felt.
