Biography of PJ Morton
PJ Morton was born on Sunday, March 29, 1981 in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. He was born into the family of Bishop Paul S. Morton, a Canadian-born American gospel singer, and Debra Brown Morton, pastor of Greater St. Stephen’s Full Gospel Baptist Church. PJ Morton is of African American ethnicity and, unlike his parents, grew up to be non-religious.
For his education, Morton attended St. Augustine High School and graduated. He then continued his studies in marketing at Morehouse College. He obtained his baccalaureate in 2003.

As a touring member, he became a member of the Maroon 5 band in 2010, when his friend and musical director of Maroon 5 asked him to audition for the band as a keyboardist and vocalist. The first to audition, he left an indelible mark on the band and since then has performed with the band at concerts and other gigs.
From 2012 to 2014, PJ Morton filled the position of band keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, who went on an indefinite hiatus with his band. So, on May 14, 2013, his first studio album was released with Young Money Records, titled New Orleans. Her single, ‘Only One’, featuring Stevie Wonder, was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 56th Grammy Awards in 2014.

Although Gumbo failed to enter the US chartboard chart, upon its release it received mostly positive reviews from music critics and also earned Morton two Grammy nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Album.
