BIOGRAPHY
Raoul Trujillo was born in Santa Fe in the state of New Mexico in the USA in 1955. Of Apache and Comanche origin, the future actor enlisted for a time in the United States army before becoming a ski instructor. After this experience, young Raoul developed a passion for dance and theater, which he practiced with fervor. His talent led him to become a solo dancer and choreographer for the prestigious Alwin Nikolais Dance Theater and director of the American Indian Dance Theater.
The Santa Fe native began his acting career late, at the age of 35. We are in 1990 and Raoul appears in TV series such as Rintintin junior or Le Voyageur . His athletic physique as well as his hard, weathered and typical Native American face will make the actor a specialist in Indian roles in the cinema. He is the Iroquois chief Kiotseaton in Black Robe by Bruce Beresford (1991), the story of a young Jesuit who left to evangelize the Algonquins and the Hurons in 1634. In 1993, he lent his features to Big Tooth in Agaguk by Jacques Dorfmann , the story of a young warrior in the mid-1930s who kills a white trapper for whom his father intended a bear skin. He then flees his tribe, while his furious father casts a spell on him: the shadow of the white wolf will torment him until the final confrontation.
The actor then played a warrior in Highlander III in 1995 before spending the rest of the 90s in the small window with appearances in The Rebel , The Sentinel , The Underside of Palm Beach and Largo Winch . He then returned to Indian roles in 2005 by playing Tomocomo under the direction of Terrence Malick in Le Nouveau Monde . In addition to this role, his dancing talents encouraged the filmmaker to entrust him with the choreography of the dances and rituals of certain scenes in his feature film, a challenge that the artist took on brilliantly. In 2007, Raoul met Mel Gibson who decided to hire him to step into the shoes of Zero Wolf, formidable tribal leader and big bad guy in his new feature film, Apocalypto , an adventure film set before the fall of the legendary Mayan civilization.
The actor then returned mainly to the small screen, notably with Latino roles in The Unit , US Marshals or The Experts ; he also meets Joe Pesci in his latest film role in Love Ranch with Helen Mirren . In 2011, Raoul lent his features to the Indian Black Knife in the big-budget sci-fi western Cowboys & Invaders and opposite Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig . The Canadian Denis Villeneuve then called on him to play the character of Rafael in his gripping thriller Sicario , alongside Emily Blunt , Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro . The following year, Raoul reunited with Mel Gibson in Blood Father , this time under the direction of Jean-François Richet . Muscular and tattooed, the actor is inhabited by his role as an implacable sicario relentlessly tracking down Gibson and his daughter.
