BIOGRAPHY
Son of comedian and director Carl Reiner .
During his youth, Rob Reiner frequented the greatest comic authors and actors on American television: Mel Brooks , Neil Simon , Larry Gelbart , etc. During his studies at the University of California, he founded the improvising group The Session , then continued his apprenticeship at the Bucks County Playhouse in Pennsylvania. After producing Huis-clos by Jean-Paul Sartre with Richard Dreyfuss , he worked for several years in a troupe of improvisers, The Committee . At the end of the 1960s, he began as a writer-performer on The Smothers Brothers show and achieved a triumph with the role of Meathead, the friendly oaf in the series All in the Family , for which he won two Emmys. He also appeared in several films, including Enter Laughing by Carl Reiner and Summertree by Anthony Newley , and various shows before moving behind the camera.
It was in 1984 that Rob Reiner came to the attention of moviegoers with a brilliant rock docu-fiction , Spinal Tap . He then signed the comedy Boy shock for chic girl (1985) with John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga before adapting the short story Stand by me (1986) by Stephen King . Now on the path to success, he directed what would rightly be considered a model of the genre, the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally (1989). The couple formed by Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan work wonders there. Trying his hand at a thriller with Misery , he allowed Kathy Bates to win an Oscar in 1991 for her portrayal of a psychotic nurse. Another masterstroke: that of having brought together in front of his camera a prestigious cast composed, among others, of Tom Cruise , Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore for the trial film Men of Honor (1992).
Unfortunately, since the lackluster success of President and Miss Wade (1995), criticism has become more harsh towards his work. His legal thriller Ghosts of the Past (1996) went unnoticed,Une vie à deux (1999), whose poster was drooling – Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer in the main roles -, is criticized for its simplistic scenario, and the bluette Alex and Emma (2003) simply does not come out in theaters French. In 2005, Rob Reiner, however, attempted a comeback with fanfare with La Rumeur court , a romantic comedy performed by Jennifer Aniston and inspired by The Graduate , then he brought together, 2 years later, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman on the poster for the dramatic comedy Without further ado .
