Romelu Lukaku Biography, Age
It was on May 13, 1993 that the striker was born in the Belgian city of Antwerp. It was here that he was raised by his father who was a football player as well as his mother.
Her father was from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He made it as a footballer, but his family would later struggle to make ends meet due to poverty.
Growing up, young Lukaku was expected by his parents to read his books more than to play football. Nevertheless, his interest in sports was too much, as he not only followed and watched as many English Premier League matches as possible, but also played alone.
The video game he played was also football. Soon his parents who had objected to him playing football allowed him and his brother to move on.
Family and girlfriend
As stated, Romelu Lukaku was born into a football playing family like his father, Roger Lukaku was also a footballer who played for the Zaire national team as well as a number of clubs such as KV Mechelen and Oostende for which he last played in 1999.
He is very close to his mother, Adolphine Lukaku and she has been instrumental in all his moves to different clubs.
The Belgium star also has a younger brother, who is also a footballer named Jordan Lukaku. Born on July 25, 1994, the youngest Lukaku plays as a left-back for the Belgium national team as well as Italian club Lazio. Just like his older brother, Jordan Lukaku has also made Belgium’s provisional roster ahead of the World Cup in Russia.
Lukaku has been in a number of relationships as well although he is still not married. Julia Vandenweghe was the first woman the former Everton striker had known publicly. The last time the two were known to be together was in 2015.
Besides being a former model who has a good social media presence, not much is known about Julia Vandenweghe. Sarah Mens and Romelu Lukaku are said to be dating Sarah Mens and the two are still dating. The first time they were linked to each other was in 2017.
Club football career
As for his youth club career, Lukaku started with Rupel Boom when he was just six years old. He stayed there until 2003 when he moved to KFC Wintam, where he stayed for a year before moving to Lierse for 2 years. When he was done, he moved to Anderlecht.
In 2009, he was promoted to Anderlecht’s senior side where he played for two seasons before English side Chelsea came for him.
He remained with the English club from 2011 to 2014 but most of his time was spent at West Bromwich Albion and Everton who decided to make the deal permanent in 2014. By the time he left the club in 2017 he had already recorded 53 goals in 110 appearances for the club.. More so, he became the first Everton player since legendary club Dixie Dean to score 25 goals in two consecutive seasons.
He moved to Manchester United FC in 2017 after rejecting a bid from Chelsea. By the end of their 2017/2018 season, Romelu Lukaku had already scored 16 goals for the Red Devils after 34 appearances.
Thanks to his stay in the English league so far, he has won a number of accolades including the PFA Team of the Year for the 2016/2017 season and Everton’s Player of the Season in the same season. .
National football career
Looking back at his national career, the Belgium striker first wore the country’s shirt as an under-15 player in 2008. He played at under-18 level in 2011 and then at under-21 level years in 2009.
The Manchester United striker had the opportunity to play for the Belgian senior team in 2010. Before being called up for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Lukaku had already won the Belgian national colors 66 times and he saw the back of the net 33 times. In the process, he became Belgium’s record goalscorer for the Belgian Red Devils although before the FIFA World Cup he still registered just 28 goals.
At the tournament in Russia, Lukaku scored four goals to help the Red Devils win the bronze medal. He was one of the best attackers in the event where he played 6 of the 7 teams of which he lost only one match against France in the semi-finals.
