BIOGRAPHY
The only son of a lawyer and an art historian, Rupert Friend spent a dreary childhood in a small village in Oxfordshire. He who discovered cinema through Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade , joined a rock group as a guitarist as a teenager. Destined for comedy, he took lessons at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.

While he was still a student, Rupert Friend obtained his first film role opposite Johnny Depp in Rochester, the Last of the Libertines before playing opposite Keira Knightley – who would become his partner until 2010 – in Pride and Prejudice ( 2005). The young leading man seems to specialize in period films, between the fall of the Roman Empire ( The Last Legion ) and World War II (he plays a Nazi lieutenant in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas ).

In 2009, the actor with androgynous features seduced the middle-aged courtesan Michelle Pfeiffer in Chéri , adaptation of Colette ‘s novel by Stephen Frears , and slipped into the skin of Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria ( Emily Blunt ). In Lullaby alongside Clémence Poésy , he takes off the period costume, to put on the clothes of a lonely jazz singer reclusive in his hotel room, incapable of creating since the death of his wife.

He then becomes an American journalist confronted with the war between Georgia and Russia in 2008, in State of War by Renny Harlin . But it was on television that success awaited him: in 2012 Rupert Friend landed a regular role in the hit series Homeland where he played (from the second season) the elite agent Peter Quinn, responsible for continuing the investigation into alleged traitor Nicholas Brody alongside Carrie Mathison ( Claire Danes ).

This television success, however, does not prevent the actor from continuing to work for the big screen: in 2014, in Fists against the Walls by David Mackenzie , he plays a prison psychologist who tries to help the main character to control his outburst of violence. Rupert then returns to leading roles in the action film Hitman: Agent 47 by Aleksander Bach , replacing Paul Walker who tragically died in a car accident at the end of 2013.

Popular second role in the cinema,At Eternity’s Gate , Emily’s Shadow , Infinite , Waldo, Private Detective and Rebel Moon . He also shot several times for Wes Anderson ( The French Dispatch , Asteroid City , The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar ). On the series side, he plays Deputy James Whitehouse in Anatomy of a Scandal and the Grand Inquisitor in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi .
