Salma Hayek Pinault was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico on September 2, 1966. Her birth name is Salma Hayek Jimenez. Her family was happy to do as her mother, Diana Jimenez Medina is an opera singer and talent scout. Salma’s father is an upper middle class oil company executive and owns an industrial equipment company.

She attended Sacred Heart Academy in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, USA at the age of 12, as her family was quite wealthy and Roman Catholic. Her father had also been a candidate for mayor of Coatzacoalcos where Salma was born. His university studies took place in Mexico, at the Universidad Iberoamericana.

Despite being diagnosed with dyslexia at school, Salma was cast in a Mexican telenovela when she was 23. Teresa in 1989. She was executive producer of the hit comedy television series Ugly Betty, the show ran from 2006 to 2010. She tried her hands at voice acting by starring in Puss in Boots alongside Antonio Banderas in the lead role. In 2015, she starred in the movie Always and was later involved in Kahlil Gibran’s book-turned-movie The Prophet. The project would bring Salma and her father to Baabdat, Lebanon as part of the film’s promotion. Baabdat is the home town of her father’s family. Her father is of Lebanese descent.
