BIOGRAPHY
Scott Derrickson spent a difficult childhood marked by fear in a dangerous neighborhood in Denver. He still managed to cultivate his passion for cinema, and entered the University of Southern California. He began his career as a screenwriter on Urban Legend 2: coup de grace (2000). He then took over the Hellraiser saga and directed the fifth episode: Hellraiser: Inferno . In 2004, he changed register by participating in the writing of the drama Land of plenty by Wim Wenders , presented at the Venice Festival.
But the filmmaker quickly returned to his favorite theme, horror, with The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005). The film was a success and allowed Derrickson to make a name for himself in Hollywood: in 2008, he was chosen to direct The Day the Earth Stood Still , a remake of Robert Wise ‘s science fiction classic , with Keanu Reeves . The producers of Paranormal Activity then entrusted him with the direction of the sordid Sinister (2012), with Ethan Hawke in the lead role. Public success is there.
In 2014, Scott continued the theme of exorcism with Deliver Us From Evil by Eric Bana , before joining the universe of superheroes via the position of director on Doctor Strange , the fourteenth film in the lucrative MCU. Approached to direct the sequel, which is scheduled for release in 2022, the director however leaves the ship (he is replaced by Sam Raimi ) to devote himself to Black Phone , a horror film adapted from a short story by Joe Hill (son of Stephen King ) for which he finds Ethan Hawke.
