Smita Thackeray is a popular Indian social activist and filmmaker. The socialite has founded the Mukkti Foundation and she is also the president. She has also been an advocate for women’s safety and with the foundation she is contributing to the awareness of the importance of AIDS, as well as eliminating the risk of drug abuse in youth.
In December 2018, she headlined a Freedom Parade in solidarity with the LGBTQ community facing the greatest stigma around HIV/AIDS, along with stars Sunny Leone, Nisha Harale, Rohit Verma. Smita Thackeray: biography, family, career
The famous public figure was born on August 17, 1958 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. She was born to middle class Maharashtrian parents Madhukar Chitre and Kunda Chitre. She grew up with two sisters: Swati and Sushma.
For her education, she attended Chhabildas Girl’s High School, Dadar. From a very young age, she began to learn classical Marathi singing. Also, she completed BSc from Ruparel College, Mumbai, with honors from her and majored in Botany.
After graduating, he worked at the Hotel Centuar and was in charge of the administrative and management department. She though she had an interest in fashion, which led her to open a boutique called NARI later on. Furthermore, she also founded the Mukkti foundation in 1997. The foundation aims to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS as well as drug abuse in youth.
Additionally, she is the founder and owner of Rahul Productions. The production has released films such as Ishq Sarfira, Sandwich and Haseena Man Jaayegi from 1999 to 2015. In 2001, she was elected President of the Indian Film Producers Association (IMPPA) until 2004. During her time at IMPPA, she started a debate on the ethical projection of films and post-release material on television and other media.
