BIOGRAPHY
A graduate of New York’s Purchase University (specializing in visual arts), Stanley Tucci has made a specialty, throughout his career, of tough-as-nails Italian-American characters. After a first appearance in The Honor of the Prizzi by John Huston (1985), alongside Jack Nicholson , he continued to play supporting roles in comedies, in Who’s That Girl , with Madonna , or the popular Beethoven (1992). He plays both for Woody Allen ( Harry in All His States ) and for Danny Boyle ( A Life Less Ordinary ), and obtains some more important roles, notably in The Pelican Affair , in which he plays Khamel, an assassin from the ‘Est, or Kiss of Death , where he is Frank Zioli, a dishonest prosecutor.

In 1996, this great supporting role in American cinema co-directed (with actor Campbell Scott ), wrote and produced his first film, Big Night , which he presented at the Sundance independent film festival. Stanley Tucci also plays the lead role in this comedy about the setbacks of two Italian brothers wanting to save their restaurant from bankruptcy. His second feature film, The Impostors , in 1998, is also a comedy in the pure tradition of Laurel & Hardy films, in which he co-stars with Oliver Platt .

Stanley Tucci does not abandon his acting career, however, and completes his list of supporting roles with films like A Midsummer Night’s Dream or Star Couple . He returned behind the camera in 2000 with Joe Gould’s secret (drama based on the true friendship between a journalist and a vagabond in the 40s and 50s) but it is above all as an actor that he continues to chart his path throughout this decade. Always in great demand, he appears in increasingly important productions. He notably toured under the direction of Sam Mendes ( The Paths of Perdition ), Steven Spielberg ( The Terminal ) and Peter Jackson ( Lovely Bones ) and became popular on the small screen thanks to his role as Doctor Moretti in the series Emergency . He also appeared in numerous comedies such as The Devil Wears Prada as Meryl Streep ‘s right-hand man , Emma Stone and Julie and Julia by Nora Ephron.

If the 2010s opened with the musical Burlesque and the drama Margin Call , it was mainly in Hollywood blockbusters that the actor subsequently evolved. He thus recruited Chris Evans to make him Captain America (2011), presented the Hunger Games four times (2012) in a totally extravagant look, lent his features to Dionysus in Percy Jackson (2013) or even rubbed shoulders with the giant robots of Transformers in Age of Extinction and The Last Knight . He even finds himself transformed into a harpsichord in the live adaptation of Beauty and the Beast (2017).

Between two blockbusters, he is in the credits of some more modest works such as The Gardens of the King (2015) by his colleague Alan Rickman , the Oscar winner Spotlight (2016) and My Lady (2018) where he is the companion of Emma Thompson . Always quick to multiply experiences in various fields, he lent his voice in 2014 to Herb Kazzaz, the ex-mentor and best friend of BoJack Horseman , the hero of the Netflix animated series of the same name. Another series, another atmosphere in 2017 with season 1 of Feud which traces the legendary rivalry between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. There is Jack Warner, the famous president of Warner Bros. In 2018, he returned to directing more than ten years after Blind Date , which remained unpublished in France. With Alberto Giacometti, The Final Portrait , he has created a biopic dedicated to one of the most important painters and sculptors of the 20th century.
