Steven Vincent Buscemi was born on November 13, 1957 to John Buscemi (Father) and Dorothy Wilson (Mother). The actor had humble beginnings as his father was a simple sanitation worker and Korean War veteran while his mother worked as a host at Howard Johnson. Steve was raised as a Catholic with his three brothers – Jon, Ken and Michael.

In 1975, Steve graduated from Valley StreamCentral High School in Nassau County, New York. In high school, he took part in the drama troupe and also participated in wrestling for the varsity team. It’s safe to say that Steve has been emotionally attached to his hometown ever since he returned to his childhood village of Valley Stream to shoot his movie titled Tree Lounge. Steve starred in and served as screenwriter in the film which he also directed. He briefly attended Nassau Community College before enrolling at the Lee Strasberg Institute in Manhattan (1980).

At the age of 18, Steve passed a civil service test and became a firefighter in New York City in 1976. He worked for four years with FDNY’s Engine Co in Manhattan’s Little Italy neighborhood in New York. Due to his philanthropic nature, Steve returned to Engine 55 after the 9/11 disaster and worked for days on a World Trade Center rescue mission. After this horrific experience, he was tricked into giving a speech in support of increased firefighter salaries at a union rally. He was named an Honorary Battalion of the FDNY for his efforts.

Like his misaligned teeth, his eyes are distinguished by their old-fashioned appearance and wrinkles. His eyes look amazing when you photoshop them on other people, although he says he doesn’t find it amusing. His physical appearance contributes greatly to the characters he portrays in films which are often twisted or demented characters.
