He was born Theodore Anthony Nugent on December 13, 1948 in Redford, Michigan, USA. Ted is the third of four children born to his parents – Marion Dorothy and Warren Henry Nugent, a military sergeant. He is of American nationality and of part Swedish descent through his maternal grandparents.

Ted Nugent grew up in Michigan, right in the city of Detroit. Ted developed a passion for music and hunting from a young age, mastering the bow by the age of five and the guitar by the age of six. As a child, he used to hunt in the Dearborn Hills of Michigan. Later, at the age of fourteen, he founded his first music band “Lourdes”.
