Tom Llamas Biography (Nationality, Career)

Thomas Edward Llamas (pronounced Yahmiss) was born July 2, 1979 in Miami, Florida to immigrants who fled Cuba in the 1960s. His nationality is American. Llamas graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana with degrees in broadcast journalism and theater and speech. In college, Tom was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Years later, Tom enrolled in the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies at the University of Miami, where he completed a program focused on Raul Castro and Cuban-American voters.

Fresh out of college, Tom began his journalism career at NBC News Specials Unit in New York. Before long, he joined MSNBC where he mainly covered politics in addition to the war with Afghanistan and the 9/11 attacks.

During the 2000 presidential elections, Tom traveled to no less than 40 states across the country, covering the campaigns of Reverend Al Sharpton, Senator John Kerry and Senator John Edwards. He focused primarily on Democratic candidates.

And then came 2009 and Tom returned to New York, this time to work for NBC News as a correspondent and WNBC-NBC 4 as an assignment/investigative reporter. During his 5 years with WNBC, Tom in 2013 won an Emmy for his coverage of Hurricane Irene. That same year, he also won Emmys for Best Anchor and Best Tough News Story. In 2014, he won two regional Edward R. Murrow awards, including one as part of the WNBC team that covered Hurricane Sandy.

With WNBC, Tom has also covered the Haiti earthquake, the Boston Marathon bombings and the Times Square bomb scare.

Tom was employed by Walt Disney’s ABC News in 2014. He is the anchor for the weekend edition of “World News Tonight” in addition to being the chief national correspondent for all ABC news programs and platforms. He covered for Republican candidates in the 2016 presidential election in which Donald Trump called him an executioner.

Nope! Tom Llamas is not a gay man. He is married and has children. His wife is Jennifer Llamas and they have been married since 2006.
