Thomas Baptist Morello was born on November 30, 1964 in Harlem, New York. He is the only child of Ngethe Njoroge, a Kenyan diplomat and Mary Morello, an American activist. He is of mixed ethnicity. Her mother is American, of Italian and Irish descent, while her father is Kenyan Kikuyu.

Tom was raised solely by his mother after his father moved back to his home country of Kenya. While Tom and his mother lived in Libertyville, Illinois, he attended Libertyville High School, where his mother taught American History.

While at school, Tom started singing in the school choir and was also part of the drama club. He then continued his studies at Harvard University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in humanities in 1986.

Career

Tom Morello, whose music is greatly influenced by the works of Run-DMC, and Jam Master Jay became interested in the guitar at the age of 13. In 1991 Morello formed the band with Zack de la Rocha, Brad Will and Tim Commerford. Rage Against the Machine. The following year, the band signed a recording contract with Epic Records. They have released four albums, the last being the edited recordings of their last two concerts. In 2000 the band subsequently disbanded when Zack de la Rocha went solo and the other three formed Audioslave with Chris Cornell 

In 2003, Tom Morello launched a solo project called The Night Watchman. With his keen interest in politics, he used the music of The Night Watchman to express his political views which he was unable to do as much as he would have liked in Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave. He described T the night watchman as his political people alter ego. He sees his music as a reaction against illicit vices and wars. Although he had no intention of recording songs, he released his first solo album, One Man Revolution on April 24, 2007. The following year, another album, La ville fabuleusewas released in September with influences from the works of Bob Dylan and Jim Hendricks.

In October 2011, Rebel World Songs was released. But before that, an EP titled Union Town was released. Proceeds from the sale of EP were donated to the America Votes Union Unity Fund.

With renewed vigor, Tom Morello started another band called The Freedom Fighters Orchestra Carl Restivo, Eric Springsteen and David Gibbs were members. In 2012, Morello joined Springsteen and E Street band on their Australian Wrecking Ball tour. Morello was also part of Prophets of Rage which was formed in 2016, with friends from Rage Against the Machine. The band has since released an EP titled The Party Is Over as well as on various tours.

Besides music, he’s also a comic book writer, writing the Orchid for Dark House comic miniseries. He also wrote songs to accompany each issue of the series. Tom Morello is currently working on a new album entitled Le métro de l’Atlas announced on July 26, 2018.
