Tony Robbins is a successful American life coach, author, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is known for his transformational seminars, effective self-help books, and eye-catching infomercials. Robbins is praised and highly respected for his ability to inspire people to be the best they can be. With an annual turnover of over US$6 billion from the multiple businesses he owns, Tony Robbins is arguably one of the wealthiest life coaches of this generation.

Biography,

Tony Robbins was born Anthony J. Mahavoric on February 29, 1960 in North Hollywood, California. He was, however, raised primarily in Azusa and Glendora, two towns in the state of California. His parents (whose names are unknown) divorced when he was very young. In fact, he was only 7 years old when it happened and he describes the experience as a torrid experience. His mother, on the other hand, remarried several times, causing a lot of instability in Tony’s life. Tony had to deal with the emotional trauma of finding a new father just as he was getting used to the old one. One of these new dads who ended up becoming an old dad was a baseball player named Jim Robbins.

Jim Robbins adopted Tony when he was 12, explaining why Tony gave up his surname Maharovic for Robbins. In her quest for love, Tony’s mother barely had time to care for him and his 3 younger siblings. As an eldest, Tony had to take on this enormous responsibility. He resorted to odd jobs to earn money to provide for the basic needs of his youngest.

Surprisingly, Tony Robbins’ studies background isn’t as solid and flattering as some might think. He attended Glendora High School and reached the height of student body president in his senior year. However, Tony could no longer bear the frustration of living with his mother, and at age 17 he left home. This contributed greatly to his lack of a college education. He eventually took a job as a janitor to make ends meet.

nothing to something

How Tony Robbins went through everything he had to do and still ended up being a multi-millionaire seems almost miraculous. After working as a janitor, he became a seminar organizer for Jim Rohn, author and motivational speaker. He was still 17 when he started promoting seminars for Jim Rohn. Tony will master and teach NLP, Ericksonian Hypnosis, as well as Firewalking at the age of 23.

By 1988, Tony had already held several seminars in which he incorporated his Ericksonian hypnosis skills and his firewalking skills. In the same year of 1988, he published his first infomercial titled Personal Power and produced by Guthy Renker. Over the next three years, Tony’s publicity information would be seen by over 100 million Americans. In 1997, Tony Robbins started the Leadership Academy Seminar, which brought together crowds of prominent Americans and attracted over 4 million people.

The career of Tony Robbins

Tony is the co-founder of the Robbins-Madanes Center for Intervention. He founded this organization with Cloé Madanes with the aim of training other life coaches, helping families and counseling people struggling with addiction. During his career as a life coach, Tony Robbins has worked with personalities from different works of life. Some of them include former US President Bill Clinton, tennis superstar Serena Williams, Hollywood star Hugh Jackman, as well as US rap icon Pitbull.

As an author, he has written the following books: Unlimited Power (1986), Awaken the Giant Within (1991), Giant Steps (1994), Money: Master the Game (2014) and Unshakeable: Your Financial Freedom Playbook (2017 ), of which he is the co-author with Peter Mallouk. Tony was selected by Accenture as one of the “Top 50 Business Thinkers” and named one of the “Top 200 Business Gurus” by Harvard Business Press.

Wife, divorce, children

Robbins has been married twice. In 1984, Tony met one of his seminar attendees and fell in love. Her name was Rebecca Jenkins. Rebecca had already been married twice with 3 children, but Tony didn’t seem to mind. In fact, he married her and adopted all of her children (including Jolie Jenkins). However, after 14 years of marriage, Tony and Jenkins divorced.

About 3 years after his divorce from Rebecca Jenkins, Tony married Bonnie Robbins, née Humphrey, in October 2001. This marriage was not successful with some people. The Vancouver Sun wrote an article about it and called Tony “a hypocritical robbery woman.” Tony sued them for defamation and was awarded $20,000. Although they have no children together, Tony and Bonnie remain happily married to this day.

Tony also fathered a child out of wedlock. In 1984, his ex-girlfriend, Liz Acosta, gave birth to a son named Jairek Robbins. Jairek is a successful motivational speaker and performance coach. He is actually Tony’s only biological child.
