Troye Sivan was born Troye Sivan Mellet, his parents’ first child; Laurelle and Shaun Mellet on June 5, 1995 in Johannesburg, South Africa. His Jewish father works as a real estate agent, while his mother, who converted to Judaism before marrying her husband, is a housewife. He has three siblings named Steele, Tyde and Sage.
Sivan grew up in Perth, Western Australia, after his parents left the South African nation when he was around two years old due to rising crime rates in the country. He attended a modern Orthodox Zionist Jewish school in Perth called the Carmel School until 2009 when he began distance learning due to his music career. He began singing at the age of eleven on the Channel Seven Perth Telethon, where in 2006 he performed a duet with Guy Sebastian, winner of the 2003 Australian Idol Show.
In 2007, Troye Sivan released his debut EP entitled Dare to Dream while starring in a local stage production of Oliver! to boost his acting career.
