Vita Vea, whose full name is Tevita Tuliʻakiʻono Tuipulotu Mosese Vaʻhae Fehoko Faletau Vea was born on February 5, 1995 in Milpitas, Santa Clara County, California. He received his education from Milpitas High School (2010 – 2013) where he was a multi-athlete who dabbled in soccer and basketball. In high school, Vita Vea played in both offensive and defensive positions, appearing in a total of 29 games. As a running back, he had 69 carries for 764 yards (26.3 yards per game) and 12 downs. On the defensive line, he recorded 296 tackles (196 of which were solo), one interception, two passes defended, 19.0 sacks and two failed recoveries. His NFL career
Vita Vea received football scholarship offers, studied at various colleges including Oregon State University, University of Oregon, UCLA, and selected University of Washington. He spent a total of four years in Washington (2014 to 2017), working as a redshirt during his freshman year. In his sophomore year, he appeared in 13 games and registered 17 tackles (three for loss), one forced fumble, one pass defended and one sack. Vea did even better in his third year, appearing in 14 games and recording 39 tackles (6.5 for losses), 5.0 sacks, two passes defended and one forced fumble. Vita Vea’s fourth year (2017) was his breakout season when he had 44 tackles (5.5 for loss), four passes defended, 2, 5 sacks and a blocked punt recorded. As a testament to his outstanding season, he was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and won the Morris Trophy for Best Defensive Lineman at the Pac-12 Conference. In addition, Vita Vea was named a runner-up All-American by USA Today, Sports Illustrated, SB Nation and The Athletic. He was also nominated for the Polynesian Player of the Year Award.
Vea decided to forgo his final year of promotion for college football and entered the 2018 NFL draft. He was selected in the first round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was the 12th overall pick of the year draft. The Buccaneers suspended him on a four-year, $14,824,238 contract. Vea made his debut on September 30, 2018 in a game against the Chicago Bears.

Vita Vea comes from a close-knit family that includes Sione (father) and Fipe (mother). He also has an older brother named Sifa and an older sister named Alisi. Vea’s parents are originally from the Kingdom of Tonga, a Polynesian island nation. They both grew up on Tongatapu, a large island in Tonga, but didn’t meet and marry until after they immigrated to Northern California.
The Vita Vea family story is about character and survival. His parents had to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. At a certain point they were unable to make the mortgage payments on their home and they were repossessed by the bank. The family had to move to a motel room with only one bed. So it’s no surprise that Vea plans to use his first NFL paycheck to buy his family a home.
Vea cites his mother’s selfless dedication as one of the things that drove him to work harder to be successful. At one point, his mother worked up to five jobs to keep the family afloat. According to Vea, he wants to be successful so that he can take care of his mother and she won’t have to work anymore.
