Wendy Williams is now a former radio personality and talk show host known for her outspokenness and brazen, no-nonsense attitude. She gained fame and notoriety through her flings with celebrities before hosting her own talk show.

Since 2008, Williams has hosted the nationally syndicated television talk show; The Wendy Williams Show. A native of New Jersey, she is also an actress, New York Times bestselling author and fashion designer. In 2009 she was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.

Here’s everything you need to know about her life. Husband, son and family and all the rumors surrounding their sexuality.

biography

Wendy Williams was born on July 18, 1964, the second of three children to her parents in Ocean Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Thomas and Shirley Williams.

The Williams family grew up in a middle-class community in the Wayside section of Ocean Township. She attended Ocean Township High School where she was involved in many extracurricular activities. In addition to being a Girl Scout, she played the clarinet in the marching band and was part of her school’s swim team. After high school, Williams moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where her older sister was, to attend Northeastern University. She studied communication and studied journalism.

As a child, Williams was described as someone who had a very loud voice and spoke too much. She was able to channel this energy into radio when she worked at Northeastern radio station WRBB while she was in college. She hosted an urban music show and did an internship at Kiss 108 Radio, where she worked for Matt Seigel.

career

After completing her education, she began her radio career in the US Virgin Islands with WVIS. After a few months, she took a job in Washington, DC and another in New York, working overnight weekend shifts.

In 1989, Williams landed a full-time job in New York, urging her to return to the Big Apple. Urban Contemporary Radio, WRKS, hired her first for a morning show and later for an afternoon show, where she won the 1993 Billboard Award for “Best On-Air Radio Personality.”

A three-year stint at a Philadelphia city radio station followed before returning to New York in 2001. By this time, Williams had become something of a cult figure as she called herself the queen of all media. In her new job, Williams embraced her personal challenges in life and spoke openly about them on the radio. Issues such as her past drug addiction, plastic surgeries and miscarriages were openly discussed. This allowed audiences to connect with her and resulted in a rise in both her and the radio station’s profile.

A very notable incident that happened during her time on the radio show was when she fell out with Whitney Houston after asking her about her past drug addiction, which led to both of them using bad language on the air.

Williams later left the show in 2009 to focus on a new career in television. She began hosting a self-titled talk show, dubbed a black talk show by The New York Times. Since it aired, Williams has received multiple nominations for the Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.

Wendy Williams has made a number of television and film appearances. She made her acting debut in the 1992 sitcom Martin and has appeared in a number of other productions including Think Like a Man and Think Like a Man Too.

Along with her husband, Williams has started a successful television production company and clothing line.
