Biography (Age)
Nargis Fakhri was born Nargis Mohammed Fahkri on October 20, 1979 in Queens and began modeling when she was only 16 years old. Her father from Pakistan died when she was quite young. At the age of twelve, young Nargis Fakhri had started working as a waitress for her family. She originally wanted to be a teacher but jumped at the opportunity to travel around the world. However, she still holds a BA with a major in Fine Art and a minor in Psychology from Queens College, City University of New York.
In 2004, she became a contestant in the second and third cycles of America’s Next Top Model. She didn’t go too far, being selected for the first two challenges of both cycles but failing to complete the third challenge for the candidates who made it into the top 12. Despite this disappointment, she soon began modeling professionally in America. She has worked for a number of freelance agencies and has been a regular face at fashion shows. She soon appeared in a very popular Indian print campaign for the 2009 edition of Kingfisher Calendar and her fame soared. It was this performance that attracted Indian filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and she became his choice for a role in Rockstar , a Hindi romance drama.
This was the beginning of Nargis Fakhri’s appearances in Hindi films. She agreed to work in India to explore the culture and get closer to her roots. This is easy to understand when realizing that Pakistan and India share the same culture. In the rock star(2011) Nargis Fakhri played the role of an aspiring musician who rises from humble means to international fame after her lover dies. Nargis Fakhri’s command of Hindi was poor and so her voice had to be overlaid with the voice of Mona Ghosh Shetty, a well-known speaker. Her role in the film received mixed reviews from critics, although her looks were universally praised. The film became one of the top-grossing Hindi films of 2011, grossing £1.07 billion (US$16 million). Nargis Fakhri also received many nominations for Best Female Debut at awards shows, one of which was from Filmfare.
After the film’s huge success, a regular Hindi star was born. In 2013, the actress starred in Shoojit Sircar’s political thriller Madras Cafe . She did the dialogue herself about the film as the director needed a girl who spoke with an English accent but looked like an Indian. The film was well received and critics were more free in their praise of Nargis Fakhri’s acting. In Tera Hero (2014), Spy (2015) and Stubborn 3 (2016), all comedies, Nargis Fakhri further showed her acting skills. Spy The Hollywood production was also one of the highest grossing productions of 2015, having grossed $235.7 million worldwide.
Nargis Fakhri was appointed advisor to One Young World in October 2017. She also has numerous projects in the works, including a horror drama called Amaavas , which she has signed on to star with Sachiin Joshi. Directed by Bhushan Patel.

Nargis Fakhri is not married. In fact, when she dates someone now, she keeps it at rock bottom. She had dated actor Uday Chopra in 2016, but their relationship fell apart after the actor proposed marriage. Nargis Fakhri turned down the proposal and went to the United States even though they were in the midst of promotions for housebreaking . There were fears that the actress had left Bollywood after the whole situation, but she was quick to reassure fans that she wasn’t going anywhere.
