Sarah Huckabee Sanders Full Biography
Sarah Huckabee Sanders was born on August 13, 1982 in Hope, Arkansas to Mike Huckabee and Janet Huckabee. She is the youngest child and only daughter in the family with two older brothers; John Mark and David Huckabee. David is an Arkansas Mortgage Broker and his father was the former Governor of Arkansas.
She went to Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas and she enrolled in Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas; who is also his father’s alma mater. Through her activism at school, Sarah was soon elected student body president, but was also active in Republican organizations and many other groups before graduating in 2004.
Political career
Huckabee was introduced to politics as a child when his father ran for the United States Senate in 1992. The campaign flopped, she had described the campaign to The Hill, saying her father didn’t have a lot of personal, so the family had to be engaged and supportive. Sarah Huckabee was involved in stuffing envelopes, knocking on doors and putting up signage. Her father had also described her childhood as one where she would be seen sitting at the kitchen table and listening to political commentators analyze the poll results instead of jumping rope like most kids her age would.
She then got her start in politics as the field coordinator of her father’s 2002 re-election campaign for Governor of Arkansas. After graduating from college in 2004, Sarah Huckabee moved to Washington and took a job with the Department of Education during the Bush administration. She also worked for President Bush’s re-election campaign in Ohio as a field coordinator in 2004.
Second Street Strategies
In February 2016, Sarah Huckabee and her husband, Bryan Sanders founded Second Street Strategies in Little Rock, Arkansas. Second Street Strategies is a consulting firm that provides general consulting services for Republican campaigns. She was also Vice President of Tsamoutales Strategies, a business, management and public administration consulting firm.
Huckabee has worked as a political consultant for several campaigns. She served as the national political director for her father’s presidential campaign in 2008. Sarah Huckabee led the successful run of Arkansas Republican John Boozman for the Senate in 2010. She also served as senior adviser to the former governor Minnesota’s Tim Pawlenty during his 2012 presidential run. and Senator from Arkansas, Tom Cotton’s election in 2014. Sarah was the National Campaign Director for ONE, the international organization involved in ending poverty in the world and preventable diseases. She signed on as a senior adviser to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016 after leading her father’s presidential campaign.
Under President Donald Trump
She was named Deputy White House Press Secretary following Trump’s victory as President of the United States. Sarah Huckabee held her first White House press briefing on May 5, 2017, replacing Sean Spicer who was serving in the Naval Reserve. She continued to replace Sean Spicer until his return on May 12, 2017.
After James Comey was fired, the ensuing controversies again replaced her with Sean Spicer. During this period, Sarah’s defense of the actions of the Trump administration sparked speculation that Trump was planning to promote her to take Spicer’s position. His father, Mike Huckabee, however, refuted this. On July 21 , 2017, following Spicer ‘s resignation, new White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci announced that Sanders was the new White House Press Secretary. This makes her the third woman in history to hold the position after Dee Dee Myers in 1993 and Dana Perino in 2007.
Sarah Huckabee shares President Trump’s disdain for the media especially CNN. At a White House press briefing, she once accused reporters of spreading fake news and argued that Americans deserved better. As recently as January 2018, in defense of President Trump, she criticized media networks for making multiple allegations against her mental health and cognition.

Sarah met her husband, Bryan Chatfield Sanders during her father’s 2008 presidential campaign. He is a Republican political consultant. While working in her father’s presidential campaign as national political director, Bryan was hired as a media consultant. They were eventually married at the Lutheran Church of Nazareth in Cruz Bay on the island of St. John, US Virgin Islands on May 25, 2010. Together they have three children.
