For many people, Jocelyn Flores is just 17 hits, the debut studio album by the late American rapper XXXTentacion. Nevertheless, behind this title, a heartbreaking story inspired the name of a teenager known as Jocelyn Amparo Flores. Originally from the Bronx, she was an ordinary teenager before the tragic turn of events turned her life into a global topic.
Who was Jocelyn Flores really? what brought him to death at such a young age and what were the consequences of the tragedy? There has been a lot of twists and speculation about the events leading up to his death in 2017 which will be discussed in detail below.
Who was Jocelyn Flores, was she a real person?
Although she now exists in a song named after her, Jocelyn Flores was as real as it gets. She was born into a modest religious family on July 2, 2000 in the Bronx. She was also raised in her birthplace, where her father, Benji Flores (hairdresser), earned his living.
Jocelyn’s life became dangerously traumatized when, at the age of four, she lost her father to a chronic illness that was too expensive for the family. To add salt to her wounds, she had the difficult task of explaining to her family that she had been assaulted by a member of her family. Regardless of the doctors’ efforts to help her come to terms with these events in her life, Jocelyn confessed that her head was a mess and the proof was in the obsession she had developed to kill herself.
Nevertheless, she managed to become a beautiful teenage girl who caught the eye of popular rapper XXXTentacion on Twitter. X quickly struck up a conversation with her and invited her to Florida, just days before his death. His mother gave consent for the trip after speaking with the rapper. Jocelyn’s mum had hoped the vacation would help the troubled 16-year-old girl sort herself out. Upon her arrival, he offered her a contract to model for Revenge, his new clothing line, even though she had no prior modeling knowledge or experience.
While she was with X in Florida, he had another guest named Zoe caused growing tension between the two girls when the rapper discovered that $7,000 had gone missing while attending the prom. her cousin. After the intense altercation that ensued between the two girls who accused each other of stealing money, X rescinded his modeling offer for Flores and kicked him out of his hotel suite because , according to him, he didn’t want them throwing punches at each other in his room.
How she died?
After receiving X’s boot, Jocelyn, escorted by two members of the rapper’s crew, they headed to Hampton Inn. They helped her settle in with her luggage, after which they went out to get some food. When one of them came back, he assumed the girl was in the bathroom with the light on and the door locked.
He left and came back after a while, a bit lost and he still saw the light on in the bathroom, but since he had weed in his system, he dozed off until the next morning at 7 o’clock in the morning when it became apparent that the bathroom door was locked from the inside and the light was still on. At this point he called for help. Hotel staff broke into the bathroom to discover the teenage beauty’s lifeless body on May 14, 2017.
While details of the real cause of his death are shrouded in mystery, he was soon ruled suicidal. The Bronx beauty had been in constant battle with depression for most of her life. Notably, this was not his first attempt to end his life. She was only 12 the first time it happened and subsequently landed in hospitals four times for doing disturbing and fatal acts like taking pills, cutting her wrists and even drink bleach. Sometimes she combined all three methods but none worked until she succeeded at sixteen.
The song “Jocelyn Flores” was dedicated to her by X who then found himself facing a tragic end barely a year after his death. He was 20 when he was shot dead in a robbery on June 18, 2018.
