Shelly Miscavige was born on the ^18thdated January 1961 in Dallas, Texas. She was born Michele Diane Barnett to parents Maurice Elliott Barnett and Mary Florence Flo Barnett (née Fike). Both parents were longtime members of the Church of Scientology, and they imbibed the religion into their daughter. Her father Maurice worked as a craftsman, but information about her mother’s occupation is not available. When Shelly was very young, her parents divorced. Shelly grew up with an older sister named Clarisse and from a young age the sisters were sent to live with Lafayette Ronald Hubbard (aka L. Ron Hubbard), a science fiction and fantasy author and founder of the Church of Scientology. In the service of L. Ron Hubbard, she met husband and young Scientology leader David Miscavige.

This made her the youngest member of the Commodore messenger organization. a group of Hubbard’s most devoted supporters. She was part of the Sea Org group that followed Hubbard on his flagship Apollo when he fled to international waters to evade investigation during Operation Snow White. Operation Snow White was a Church of Scientology conspiracy that infiltrated various levels of the US government to eliminate unfavorable reports about the Church and its founder.

She was given a workspace connected to her husband’s office so they could coordinate their tasks together. Her roles began as his official assistant and unofficial adviser, depending on the situation. Over the years, the dynamic began to change.

Shelly Miscavige decides to make decisions without her husband’s consent was the straw that broke the camel’s back. A month after she hired church staff, David Miscavige began ignoring her and spent most of his time in Los Angeles. According to eyewitnesses, Shelly appeared dejected and intimidated after her husband’s return. Her public appearances became increasingly infrequent until August 2007, when she was last seen in public. Leah Remini, an actress and former Scientologist, began inquiring about the absence of Shelly Miscavige and the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Remini’s inquiries into Shelly’s whereabouts yielded nothing. Rather than remain silent about how she was asked, she became more adamant.

Leah Remini filed a missing persons report with the police, who reported meeting and speaking to Shelly Miscavige, but there was no evidence to support this. Former members of the Sea Organization believe she is being held at the Church of Spiritual Technology compound in California, but there is no concrete evidence to support this. According to a 2016 report, Shelly Miscavige had been spotted in public twice looking like a homeless person. One wonders when she is held against her will and abused.
